| Edlington School blaze. Fire crews received a call at 06:06 today about a fire at the old Edlington School, Doncaster. 10 appliances from South Yorkshire including one from Nottinghamshire attended the blaze. Three specials: a control unit, technical unit and ariel platform were also present. About 60 Firefighters dealt with the fire on Tait Avenue in Doncaster. The four-storey building was reduced to a pile of mangled metal. Group Manager Mr Phil Shillito said fire crews were still damping down the fire and an investigation into the cause would begin shortly. The old school is next to the site of the new school which will open on Thursday, 8 January 2009, as scheduled. This year’s charity is the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance. Teams of two paddle down the river Dove in boats. Contestants run from the river to the bridge where they leap 28ft into the water, which is nine feet deep. Finally, they sprint 500 yards to the finish line at the Oakover Arms Pub.
