Sheffield Council's Norton Nursery has received its first delivery of 535 trees for plantation within Sheffield as part of a massive tree planting programme this Autumn. The Council has allocated £50,000 for planting an extra 5,000 trees as part of to safeguard and improve Sheffield's green environment. The programme for plantation will involve community groups and local schools.

UK Flow - "It doesn't have to happen":
A new single was performed live at Sheffield Peace Gardens today (18 Sept) featuring celebrities who are speaking out against knife crime. The band UK FLOW recorded the single at Yellow Arch Studios, Sheffield only weeks ago. Three of the band sang at the Peace Gardens- Ali Heath Cook; Stephen Nicholas and Holly Johnson. The lyrics were written by actor Stephen Nicholas, who worked in Sky TV's Dream Team and Hollyoaks star Lee Otway. The complete band of 15 members will perform this Saturday, 26 September, in London's Hyde Park in front of an expected audience of 150,000 people.

The scheduled demotion of the iconic Tinsley Cooling towers, Sheffield, was set for 03.00am on Sunday 24 August. At their closest the north tower was a mere 9 metres from the M1 viaduct.
Local media reported as many as 6,000 spectators assembled at the Meadowhall shopping centre to view the demolition from the upper deck car parks.
The demolition did not go to plan. A large slender section of the north tower remained intact and above the upper deck of the M1 viaduct. 24 August 08
